Renovation of the Lahn bridge on the B42 near Lahnstein (Germany)

After just ten months of construction—two months earlier than planned—the approximately 50-year-old Lahn Bridge on the B42 near Lahnstein has been reopened to traffic. The bridge had become in need of rehabilitation due to wear and weather-related damage. Although traffic can now flow again, the renovation measures are not yet fully completed.

Scope of the Renovation

The renovation covers an approximately three-kilometer section, including:

  • Bridge structure (approx. 550 meters)
  • Adjacent road sections of the B42 and B260
  • Tunnel south of the Lahn
  • Sewer system throughout the construction area

As part of the project, various safety solutions from Saferoad were implemented to meet the specific requirements of the renovation and maximize safety for road users. The following systems were used:

Client & Construction Period

The Landesbetrieb Mobilität Diez is the client for this important infrastructure project. The construction period lasted from September to December 2024, with final work expected to be completed by February 2025.
