Saferoad Enhances Safety on the Iconic Gull Wing Bridge

Gull Wing Bridge in Suffolk

The Gull Wing Bridge is an engineering masterpiece that not only transforms daily life in Lowestoft but also sets a new benchmark for modern infrastructure. Saferoad is proud to have partnered with Farrans to ensure the bridge is equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems, including our H2W2 Sicuro Parapet.

The H2W2 Sicuro Parapet is designed to combine advanced safety and practicality. Its slim aesthetically pleasing design features durable steel posts with circular sections and three horizontal rails ensuring seamless integration and long-term performance.

Additionally, high quality architectural framed mesh panels were used to enhance pedestrian safety.

The bridge, opened to the public in September, provides a much-needed third crossing over Lake Lothing. Its impact has been immediate, easing town-centre congestion, reducing travel times, and improving logistics for local businesses. Built on behalf of Suffolk County Council, the bridge also acts as a catalyst for growth, attracting investment and enhancing Lowestoft’s commercial and community appeal.

The official opening by HRH Princess Anne on November 19th was a significant moment for all involved. Her Royal Highness unveiled a plaque to commemorate the achievement and was introduced to the teams who brought the bridge to life, including planners, designers, and engineers.
